Logan bans hotels and short-term rentals inside commercial mixed-use apartments
Ordinance 26-19 passed 5-0 on Nov. 3 and took effect when it was published Nov. 4
LOGAN — The Logan Municipal Council unanimously adopted Ordinance 26-19 on Nov. 3, amending the Land Development Code to prohibit motel, hotel and short-term rental uses inside a vertical mixed-use multifamily residential building in the Commercial zoning district, according to the city's published ordinance summary and the signed ordinance on file with the city recorder.
All five council members — Melissa Dahle, Mike Johnson, Katie-Lee Koven, Ernesto López and Jeannie F. Simmonds — voted aye. Mayor Mark A. Anderson approved the ordinance the same day. It took effect immediately upon publication on Nov. 4.
The ordinance amends Commercial development standards and the allowed-uses table in Title 17. Hotel and motel uses remain listed as permitted in the Commercial district on their own; the new line marks hotel, motel or short-term rental use within a multifamily building as not permitted in that zone.
Why this matters
Builders and operators of vertical mixed-use apartment buildings in Logan's Commercial zone can no longer place motel, hotel or short-term rental uses inside those buildings under the amended code.
