UDOT wraps Logan Canyon fiber splicing before winter hiatus; work resumes spring 2027
LOGAN - Crews on UDOT's Logan Canyon fiber project along US-89 expect to finish connections between fiber-optic cable sections over the next week, weather permitting, before the project enters its winter hiatus, according to UDOT's Construction Update dated Nov. 5, 2026.
UDOT said traffic-control equipment will be removed as this season's work wraps next week and that remaining work will resume in spring 2027. The agency called the Nov. 5 notice its final email update for the season. Crews have placed about 10,000 tons of asphalt in roadway restoration to date. Conduit depth reaches as much as 5 feet in the lower canyon and about 2 to 3 feet above Right Hand Fork.
Drivers are asked to slow down near crews until work is complete. UDOT warned of trenches, uneven surfaces and loose gravel, said one-way traffic systems are in use, and noted schedules can change for weather, utilities and material delays.
Why this matters
Canyon travelers still face active work zones for about another week, then a seasonal pause until spring 2027.
