PROVIDENCE - A petition to bring about 9.8 acres of unincorporated land on Providence's south edge into the city has been certified, according to a notice of petition for annexation signed by the city recorder.

The land is parcel 02-117-0054, next to the city's south boundary in the general area of 246 E. 2100 South, and is owned by Creed Estates LLC, the notice says. The recorder delivered notice of certification to the City Council, the petition's contact sponsor and the Cache County Executive on Nov. 6.

The city may grant the petition and annex the land unless a written protest is filed with the Cache County Boundary Commission on or before Dec. 16, with a copy delivered to the Providence city recorder. Protests may be filed at the Cache County Executive's Office, 199 N. Main St., Logan.

The notice does not say how the land would be used or zoned. The full petition is available to inspect at the city recorder's office, 164 N. Gateway Drive, and on the city's website, the notice says.

Why this matters

Annexation would put the land under Providence's city rules and services. Neighbors or others who object have until Dec. 16 to file a written protest with the county Boundary Commission.
