Comment on regional transportation project points closes Nov. 6
The planning group will assign 1,900 local input points; a staff draft gives top points to Main Street, Beatty Drive and NC 27 bridge projects
MOUNT HOLLY - Residents have until Friday, Nov. 6, to comment on how the Gaston-Cleveland-Lincoln Metropolitan Planning Organization assigns local input points to transportation projects, according to a Gaston County announcement. The 15-day comment period opened Oct. 23.
The group has 1,900 points to spread among highway, aviation, bicycle and pedestrian, transit and rail projects. The county said this is the last comment period before the draft 2028-2037 Transportation Improvement Program is released.
A staff draft in the Oct. 14 technical committee agenda packet proposes the maximum 100 points for three bicycle and pedestrian projects: bike lanes and rebuilt sidewalks on Main Street to Autumn Woods Boulevard, raised cycle tracks on NC 273 (Beatty Drive) from Caldwell Drive to Tuckaseege Road, and a 10-foot path on a widened NC 27 bridge over the Catawba River. It proposes 28 points for bike lanes on Noles Drive and Woodlawn Avenue and none for two highway intersection projects.
Written comments go to principal transportation planner Tori Dellinger at PO Box 1748, Gastonia, NC 28053, or by fax at 704-869-1960. People may also speak at the technical committee meeting Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. or the board meeting Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
