Mount Holly awards contract for second phase of Kempe Michael Way
The next phase includes a bridge over the Colonial Pipeline easement
MOUNT HOLLY - The Mount Holly City Council voted unanimously Oct. 12 to award the contract for the second phase of Kempe Michael Way to Blythe Development LLC, according to the city's meeting video. City Manager Jonathan Blanton told the council the city received three bids for the work.
The road will connect YMCA Drive and Caldwell Drive. Blanton said the project began as the South Gateway Connector Road and is named for the city's late former city attorney. The first phase is finished.
The second phase requires a bridge over the Colonial Pipeline easement. Answering a question from Councilman Reeves, Blanton said coordinating with Colonial caused substantial delays early on, which is why the city split the road into two phases. He said the Local Government Commission approved the matter the week before the vote.
This project is not simply about building a road. — City Manager Jonathan Blanton
The contract amount was not stated during the discussion.
