Mount Holly to require sidewalks and trees on new infill homes
Council approved text amendment TA-26-9 on Oct. 12
MOUNT HOLLY - New single-family and multifamily homes built on infill lots in Mount Holly will have to include sidewalks built to city standards, along with new landscaping and trees, under a text amendment the City Council approved unanimously Oct. 12, according to the city's meeting video.
City planning staff told the council the change, case TA-26-9, amends the subdivision and land development ordinance and Section 10.5(c) of the zoning ordinance. Staff said sidewalks and plantings are already required in major subdivisions and commercial developments, but not on infill lots in established neighborhoods.
Staff said the rule would improve connectivity along city streets, advance goals in the city's bike and pedestrian plan, and help replace vegetation lost to development and redevelopment.
The Planning Commission recommended the change 7-0 at its Oct. 5 meeting, staff said. No one signed up to speak at the public hearing.
