Transportation Board backs engine brake ordinance for White Rock, N.M. 4
Members also approved the FY27 snow and ice plan 7-0; a transit study was discussion only.
LOS ALAMOS — The Los Alamos County Transportation Board on Thursday recommended that County Council adopt the draft engine brake ordinance as presented (agenda 22310-26). The ordinance would bar large diesel trucks from using their engine brakes, which make a loud rumbling sound as the trucks slow down, on N.M. 4 at both entrances to White Rock. Members dropped a proposed 9 p.m.–7 a.m. nighttime-only limit before the 6-0 vote (@0:18:45).
The board also approved the fiscal year 2027 Snow & Ice Control Plan, which sets priorities for plowing roads and school walking routes and coordinates the county’s winter-storm response, as presented, 7-0, after Member Karen Edwards, attending online, voted yes (@1:49:25). An ACT MyCommute update and Stantec’s draft Atomic City Transit microtransit study were discussion only, with no motion (see our Nov. 3, 2026 story).
