Atomic City Transit study goes to Transportation Board Thursday; public survey opens Nov. 6
The Stantec study looked at last fall's Saturday on-demand pilot and whether on-demand service could free up capacity for regular Saturday buses.
LOS ALAMOS - Atomic City Transit will present draft recommendations from a new study of its bus and on-demand service to the county Transportation Board at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, in Council Chambers at 1000 Central Avenue, according to the final agenda. The public can also join on Zoom.
Transit Manager James Barela is the listed presenter. The county said in a Nov. 2 release that recommended changes to ACT operations will be shared.
Stantec Consulting Ltd. is doing the study, which the county values at $81,616.69. It reviewed last fall's Saturday on-demand pilot and ACT ridership, and looked at where on-demand service could replace parts of fixed routes to free up capacity for regular Saturday service.
The county's project page says limited operator availability has made it increasingly difficult to run ACT's six weekday fixed routes and four school-focused express routes. The 13-week Saturday pilot, Aug. 2 to Oct. 25, 2025, averaged about 35 trips a Saturday and peaked at 72 passengers, but relied on staff overtime.
An ACT survey on the study will be open from 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. A County Council presentation is planned for early 2027.
