MTD buses ride free on Election Day, Nov. 3
Fixed-route service is fare-free until 8 p.m., and MTD Access is free for eligible riders going to and from the polls.
URBANA - The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District will let riders board its fixed-route buses for free on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, from the start of service that morning until 8 p.m., one hour after polls close, the district said in a release updated Oct. 30.
MTD Access, the district's ADA paratransit van service, will also be free that day for eligible riders with disabilities who are traveling to and from voting locations.
MTD has offered free Election Day fares since 2016. The district suggests riders plan trips ahead with the Trip Planner on mtd.org and find their polling place through the Champaign County Clerk's Office, the election authority for the county. For trip-planning help, MTD's number is 217-384-8188.
