Urbana bike and pedestrian commission returns to plan for transit district seat tonight
Draft minutes say council members worried the change would dilute residents' voices; the Human Rights Commission also meets
URBANA - Urbana's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission is set to take up an ordinance and resolution on adding a Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District representative at its 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday at 400 S. Vine St., according to the agenda.
Draft August minutes in the packet say city staff brought the proposal to the council's Committee of the Whole, where council members were concerned that the ratio of the transit seat to at-large members would weaken Urbana residents' voices. Staff reviewed alternatives, and the commission put off further discussion.
The commission will also hear a Kickapoo Rail Trail update from the Champaign County Forest Preserve District and a transit district presentation on paratransit, and take up a bylaws update and youth member renewal.
The Human Rights Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. at the same address. Its agenda includes a vote on a proposed three-year option for certain certifications, receipt of automatic two-year equal employment opportunity certifications, EEO workforce statistics and introduction of a new commissioner. The commission has three openings.
Neither packet includes the ordinance text or says which certifications the three-year option would cover.
