Urbana council to vote Monday on council appointment and second Race Street redevelopment extension
Oct. 19 agenda for the rescheduled meeting is now posted, along with the Committee of the Whole agenda
URBANA - The Urbana City Council is scheduled to vote Monday, Oct. 19, on Mayor DeShawn B. Williams' appointment of Ashley Withers to a vacant council seat, according to the agenda for the rescheduled 7 p.m. meeting at 400 S. Vine St. The agenda lists the seat as Ward 6, as do two pages of the agenda packet; one packet page lists it as Ward 4. Withers would serve until the April 6, 2027 consolidated election, when voters fill the seat.
The consent agenda includes a second extension for Race Street Ventures LLC's redevelopment at 118-120 S. Race St., moving the project completion date from Oct. 31 to Dec. 31, the agenda packet shows. A city memo says 120 S. Race St., the former Iron Post Tavern, has been vacant since 2021. Liquor license increases for Eighty Three Vietnamese, 201 N. Broadway Ave., and Soccer Planet, 2310 Willow Road, are also on consent.
The Committee of the Whole agenda for the same evening lists a Hope Village presentation, a license agreement with Fernie's High Horse for part of 124 S. Race St. and a liquor license increase for The Cosmo Urbana, 300 S. Broadway Ave.
