Rantoul staff lay out $450,000 to $1 million a year in property tax options for a road repair fund
Trustees were asked to give direction by Oct. 23; a levy vote is expected in December.
RANTOUL - Rantoul village staff on Oct. 13 outlined a five-year program that would set aside property tax money in a dedicated fund for road repair, with options of $450,000, $650,000 or $1 million a year, according to the village's video of the board meeting.
Over five years those options total $2.25 million, $3.25 million and $5 million, staff told trustees under the agenda item "Discussion of Tax Levy." The program would include an evaluation and sunset provision at the end of five years.
Staff said the fund would target streets with pavement condition scores of about 40 to 55 and coordinate paving with any underground utility work. Streets rated failed or serious would be held for any state or federal money, staff said.
Staff asked trustees for direction by 5 p.m. Oct. 23 and invited public feedback. The plan could return at the Nov. 10 meeting, followed by a public hearing notice and a levy vote at the Dec. 8 meeting, staff said. The written outline was handed out at the meeting and is not in the posted packet.
