URBANA - Steven Doggett took the oath of office as Urbana's fire chief at the City Council's Committee of the Whole meeting Monday, Oct. 5, according to the meeting video. The agenda listed the item as fire department promotions and recognitions.
Doggett is listed in the city's staff directory as deputy fire chief. Roy Lane took the oath as deputy chief at the same ceremony. The directory, checked Friday, still lists Tal Prendergast as interim fire chief.
"My goal as the fire chief is to help create a department where our firefighters are proud to serve," Doggett said before he was sworn in. A captain and a battalion chief were also pinned, and two firefighters were recognized for their actions at a working fire.
The ceremony begins at 10:25 in the meeting video.
