Phelps Road work in Suffield to stop at Newgate Road for now after Copper Hill Road culvert failure
SUFFIELD - Construction on Phelps Road will extend only as far as Newgate Road for now, rather than continuing to the traffic island at Copper Hill Road, according to an updated Town of Suffield public notice dated Oct. 19. The town says the plan was changed because Copper Hill Road was recently closed after a culvert failure.
Phelps Road is open to alternating one-lane traffic on weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with both lanes open at all other times, the notice says.
Work on the stretch between Newgate Road and the Copper Hill Road traffic island is expected to resume in spring 2027, according to the town.
The town asks drivers to plan ahead and use caution in the work zone. Questions go to the Department of Public Works at 860-668-3280.
