Exterior walls start going up on TPA's new Airside D

The 16-gate terminal is scheduled to open to the public in 2029.

TAMPA - Crews at Tampa International Airport have started lifting the first exterior wall panels onto Airside D, the airport's future 16-gate terminal, according to an Oct. 27 airport newsroom post.

The precast concrete panels are made offsite, trucked to the airport, then set by crane and fastened to the building's steel frame. The first phase calls for 83 panels around the outline of the building. Glass panels for windows will fill in between them later, the airport said.

Elsewhere on the site, workers are building the shuttle guideway to the Main Terminal, pouring floors, starting the roof and installing stairs, plus mechanical, electrical and plumbing work.

TPA broke ground on Airside D in December 2024. The terminal is scheduled to open to the public in 2029. Hensel Phelps leads the design-build team, with HNTB Corporation and Gensler.
