Hillsborough's 11th Hiking Spree starts Nov. 1, with a kickoff at Keystone Park on Nov. 7
Hike eight of 25 county trails by March 31 to earn a patch, a walking-stick medallion or a pet bandana.
TAMPA - Hillsborough County's Hiking Spree opens its 11th season on Nov. 1, according to an Oct. 27 county news release. This year's list has 25 trails at county parks and preserves, and the challenge runs through March 31, 2027.
Hikers who complete at least eight trails by the deadline can choose a limited-edition patch, a walking-stick medallion or a pet bandana, the county says. Registering is free, though some parks charge an entrance fee, usually $2 per vehicle. Some trails suit wheelchair users, and leashed dogs are welcome. The county's Hiking Spree page says maps and reward details are coming soon.
Kickoff on Nov. 7
The kickoff runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Keystone Park & Recreation Center, 17928 Gunn Hwy., Odessa, with guided hikes, nature talks, crafts and food trucks. The park's half-mile paved Hawk's Nest Fitness Trail is on this year's list. Weather could cancel the event.
Earlier, a ranger leads a 1.5-mile first hike of the spree at Lettuce Lake Park on Nov. 1. It costs $5 plus a $2 cash park fee, requires pre-registration and is capped at 20 people.
