Santa Clara's SoundHound will let LG TV owners order restaurant food from the couch
The voice AI company says the service will reach about 20 million LG smart TVs in the U.S.
SoundHound AI, a Santa Clara voice-AI company, said Tuesday it is teaming with LG Electronics so people can order from restaurants and other businesses through about 20 million LG smart TVs in the U.S.
Restaurants come first. SoundHound already takes phone and drive-thru orders with AI voice assistants at more than 15,000 restaurant locations, it said, including Jersey Mike's, Five Guys and White Castle.
How it works
A smart TV connects to the internet and runs apps. SoundHound's system plugs into a restaurant's point-of-sale system, the software that rings up and sends orders to the kitchen, so merchants need no new equipment, the companies said. SoundHound first showed its ordering service at the CES tech show in 2025.
The TV is the largest screen in the most social setting of every home, which makes it a highly untapped opportunity for commerce.
The companies did not say when ordering will start or which restaurants will be first.
