Nvidia says its AI software is speeding up chip-factory design work at Applied Materials, Lam and others

Computer simulations that took days now take far less time, the companies say.

Nvidia said Tuesday that chip-industry companies are using its software to speed up the computer simulations behind chip factories, or fabs.  The claims come from a blog post by the Santa Clara company and figures its partners reported.

Before a new chip process is used, engineers simulate how gases, heat and light behave inside machines that etch patterns far thinner than a hair.  Those simulations can take days on ordinary processors.  Nvidia's approach runs them on its graphics chips or trains AI models to predict the results.

Nvidia said Santa Clara-based Applied Materials ran one simulation tool up to 10 times faster and surface-shape simulations 35 times faster, and models entire fabs as digital twins, virtual copies used for planning.  Fremont-based Lam Research uses an Nvidia AI model to predict plasma behavior in milliseconds instead of days.  Siemens reported up to 17 times faster lithography, the step that prints circuit patterns.  Testing-equipment maker Advantest said AI agents cut model selection from hours to minutes.
