Google DeepMind adds chemistry skills to its AI agent app for drug designers
In a demo, the agent did days of lung-cancer drug analysis in about an hour.
Google DeepMind said Tuesday it has added chemistry tools to Google Antigravity, Google's app for AI agents that carry out multistep tasks. According to DeepMind, the new Cheminformatics Skills let the agent do drug-design analysis that usually takes days.
Instead of letting the AI guess at chemistry, the skills make it use standard, exact tools. Those include RDKit, free software for handling molecule structures, and ChEMBL and PubChem, two public databases of chemicals and test results.
In a demo, the agent studied two lung-cancer drugs, crizotinib and the more rigid lorlatinib. It searched thousands of compounds, compared near-identical molecules to see which changes boost strength, built prediction models and proposed new ring-shaped molecules with ways to make them, in about an hour.
DeepMind cautioned that the designs are only ideas until chemists make and test them. The skills are available now through Antigravity's Science plugin, and 10,000 scientists can get the top paid tier free for six months. DeepMind's parent, Google, is based in Mountain View.
