Palo Alto's LiveX says its life-size AI hosts now greet visitors at San Jose's airport and SAP Center

The talking screens and holograms, at more than 100 sites, give directions and answers in many languages without an app.

A tall kiosk screen shows a life-size smiling woman in a white track jacket with on-screen buttons such as "Tap screen to chat," "Take Selfie" and "San Jose Information," next to a potted plant.

Travelers at San José Mineta International Airport and fans at SAP Center, home of the San Jose Sharks, are among the people its life-size AI hosts now serve, LiveX said Tuesday.

LiveX, a Palo Alto company, said its hosts are running at more than 100 customer sites.  Others include El Camino Hospital, PUMA stores and Marriott and Hilton hotels.  It announced a package it calls AI City at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, a yearly trade show on technology for cities.

What the hosts do

A host is a human-like character on a tall screen or hologram display that talks with visitors.  People walk up and ask questions out loud in their own language, with no app, QR code or password, LiveX said.  It pitches the hosts as an upgrade over touchscreen kiosks with fixed menus and flat maps, and as help for businesses that lack staff to answer every question, while general-purpose robots remain years away.

The new version adds 3D maps that give directions from where a visitor is standing, 3D product suggestions, live translation and an AI agent called Lyra that carries out requests.  LiveX said its own software handles speech, background noise, facial expression and safety rules, and runs on Nvidia graphics chips and AI models, including Nvidia's Cosmos world models and a tuned Nemotron language model.

In San Jose

The airport first used LiveX holograms during Super Bowl week in February.  The City of San José and LiveX debuted AI holograms of Mayor Matt Mahan and Sharks Sports and Entertainment President Jonathan Becher, five AI agents in the terminals and around the city, the airport said at the time.

At the San Jose Marriott, a LiveX kiosk installed for Nvidia's GTC 2026 conference stayed on as a full-time lobby concierge, giving restaurant tips, event information and directions in guests' own languages, LiveX said in a case study.  It said the screen supports more than 140 languages and answers in about two seconds, that Google and Nvidia paid to brand it during World Cup festivities, and that about 1 in 10 guests who took a selfie joined Marriott's Bonvoy loyalty program.  The hotel rents the kiosk and shares revenue with LiveX, the company said.

At a Super Bowl fan event at San Francisco's Moscone Center, eight LiveX holograms logged 30,455 interactions and more than 14,000 selfies in over 40 hours, according to the company.

AI should be greeting travelers at the airport, guiding a grandmother through the hospital, helping every shopper like the best employee in the building.

Jerry Li is LiveX's co-founder and CEO, according to the company's website.
