PG&E will pay up to half the cost of a home EV charger — or up to $5,000 installed for income-qualified drivers
Standard rebates cover up to 50% after you install an approved Level 2 charger. Lower-income applicants can get contractor costs covered up front.
PG&E residential electric customers, including those in Community Choice Aggregation areas such as San José Clean Energy, can apply for the Residential EV Charging rebate if they own or lease a battery-electric or plug-in hybrid car registered at the service address, PG&E's program page says.
Standard Rebate: After you buy and install equipment from PG&E's eligible list, you can get back up to 50% of the charger's purchase price. Apply within 180 days of purchase. A licensed California electrician must do hard-wired work.
Rebate Plus (income-qualified): Apply before a Trade Ally Network contractor buys and installs the gear. Rebates can reach $2,000 for an eligible charger install, or $5,000 if a panel upgrade is included. Income under 80% of area median income or enrollment in programs such as CalFresh or Medi-Cal can qualify. One rebate per household electric service agreement. The program is funded by California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard, not regular customer rates, PG&E says.
