San Jose Betsuin marks Eshinniko-Kakushinni and BWA memorial service Nov. 8
Jodo Shinshu service honors Eshinniko, Kakushinni and BWA members

SAN JOSE - San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin will hold an Eshinniko-Kakushinni Service and Buddhist Women's Association memorial from 10:10 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at the temple at 640 N. Fifth St., according to the church's event page.
The service honors women central to Jodo Shinshu, a Pure Land Buddhist tradition: Eshinniko, who supported Shinran Shonin; Kakushinni, described on the page as the first gatekeeper, or monshu, of what became Hompa Honganji; and Lady Takeko Kujo, who founded the Buddhist Women's Association. It is also a memorial for all BWA members.
Sunday Dharma School is at 9:30 a.m. and the regular adult service at 10:10 a.m., the church says. The temple lists (408) 293-9292. That evening the annex at 632 N. Fifth St. hosts a separate community cinema screening from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
