Shelter dogs and cats up for adoption at downtown hotel Friday

The San José Animal Care Center, the city's animal shelter, will bring adoptable pets to the Signia by Hilton San Jose hotel for a "Paws for Cause" adoption event Friday, Oct. 30, from 3 to 6 p.m., according to the city's Animal Care and Services calendar.

The hotel is at 170 S. Market St., on Plaza de César Chávez downtown.

The city's event listing does not give an entry price or an event-specific adoption fee.  The shelter's standard adoption fees, posted on the city's website, range from no fee for dogs over 30 pounds to $200 for puppies, and from $25 to $100 for cats.  Fees cover spaying or neutering, shots and a microchip, a tiny ID chip placed under the skin.  Adoption fees are waived for U.S. military veterans.

The shelter itself is at 2750 Monterey Road and is open for adoptions every day.  Its phone number is 408-794-7297.
