Shares of Agility Robotics, which builds the two-legged warehouse robot Digit, closed at $11.51 on their first day of trading on Nasdaq on Thursday after falling as low as $8.40 early in the day, The Oregonian reported.

Agility, based in Salem, Ore., said it is the first U.S.-listed company focused only on humanoid robots, machines built roughly in the shape of a person, that already has paying deployments.  It went public by merging with Churchill Capital Corp XI, a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC:  a shell company that lists on the stock market first and later merges with a private business, skipping a traditional public offering.  Agility said the merger and related financings raised about $465 million before expenses.  The stock trades as AGLT.

Digit stands just under 6 feet tall and is built to lift 50-pound loads for up to 20 hours a day, The Oregonian reported.  Customers pay $400,000 to buy and run one for five years, the company told the paper.  Agility said Digit works for logistics company GXO, where it has moved more than 100,000 plastic bins in Georgia, as well as for Schaeffler and Toyota’s Canadian factory.  It reports more than $300 million in multi-year orders for its next model, Digit 5, subject to contract milestones.

Investors are betting on the future:  Agility’s sales last year were $1.8 million, The Oregonian reported, and its market value is about $2 billion.  The company employs 500 people, including a large software team in the Bay Area.
