Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska awards wellness grants to 11 high schools, including PLV South

OMAHA - Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska has awarded $500 Healthy Home Team grants to 11 Nebraska high schools, including Papillion-La Vista South High School, the insurer announced Tuesday.

The grants support school projects that promote health and well-being. Wood River Rural Schools received this year's $5,000 grant to set up Care Closets that give students hygiene products, clothing and other necessities, the company said.

By the end of 2026, the program will have given $119,000 to Nebraska schools. It has awarded $500 grants to 208 high schools since 2024, according to BCBSNE.

The other recipients are Axtell, Cambridge, Columbus Lakeview, Lewiston, Leyton, Norfolk, Norris, Wauneta-Palisade, Wilcox-Hildreth and Wood River high schools.

"Healthy schools help build healthy communities," said Jeff Russell, BCBSNE's president and CEO.
