TDOT plans full I-65 closure Oct. 16-19 for Hamilton Avenue bridge demolition
Davidson County bridge stays closed; Chestnut Street and Wedgewood Avenue listed as crossings
NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Transportation plans a full closure of Interstate 65 in both directions from the I-40 interchange to near the I-440 interchange from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, through 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, according to a TDOT news release dated Oct. 5.
TDOT says the shutdown is needed to demolish the Hamilton Avenue bridge deck over I-65 in Davidson County. The agency says the bridge itself remains closed to vehicles and pedestrians until deck repairs finish, and that motorists can cross I-65 using Chestnut Street or Wedgewood Avenue.
After the weekend shutdown, TDOT says drivers should expect nightly intermittent lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. while the new deck is built. The release says the work is weather-dependent and is expected to finish by early December.
TDOT urges motorists to allow extra travel time, watch for message boards and overhead signs, and use SmartWay or 511 for updates.
