Middle school sets math and reading proficiency goals for May 2027 in report to school board
The Los Alamos Public Schools board also approved its consent agenda, pulled a literacy update and met in closed session on pending legal matters.
LOS ALAMOS - Los Alamos Middle School is aiming for 76% of eighth graders and 80% of seventh graders to test proficient in English language arts by May 2027, and for 58% and 75% to reach proficiency in math, Principal Alicia Cardiel and her assistant principals told the Los Alamos Public Schools board, according to the district's recording of its Oct. 22 meeting.
The school set the targets by taking each grade's three-year average and raising it by 5%, the presentation said. It also wants students' sense of belonging, measured by surveys, to grow 1% to 5% by spring 2027, and it has welcomed 14 new teachers since May.
