LANL Foundation opens scholarships of up to $20,000; applications due Jan. 10

The foundation also reported $1.2 million in education and workforce grants across Northern New Mexico.

LOS ALAMOS - High school seniors and current undergraduates in Northern New Mexico can apply through Jan. 10, 2027, for LANL Foundation scholarships of up to $20,000, the foundation announced when applications opened Oct. 2.

The money can be used at colleges in or outside New Mexico, and one application puts students in the running for more than 30 scholarships funded by Los Alamos National Laboratory employees and other donors. The foundation says the program has awarded $15 million to nearly 3,000 students since 1998, and it encourages first-generation, rural and financially needy students to apply.

In September, the foundation reported $1.2 million in grants under a redesigned strategy, including $300,000 for the Northern New Mexico Youth Fund, $200,000 for the Golden Apple Foundation's teacher pipeline work and $39,200 for the LANL Math Teacher Leader Network. Several grantees received two-year awards.

On Oct. 5, the foundation said Native Workforce Partners, a network of tribal workforce leaders it supported from 2022 through 2026, now has the leadership and capacity to continue on its own. The partners secured nearly $950,000 in philanthropic funding during that time.
