Los Alamos High's Topper Marching Band wins second straight Class A-4A state title

The band took the A-4A championship at the NMAA state contest in Rio Rancho on Oct. 24.

LOS ALAMOS - The Los Alamos High School Topper Marching Band won the Class A-4A championship at the New Mexico Activities Association's state marching band contest on Saturday, Oct. 24, according to the district's weekly newsletter and NMAA's list of state champions.

It is the band's second state title in a row. NMAA's records list Los Alamos as the A-4A champion in both 2025 and 2026, after Goddard High School won the class in 2024. Cleveland High School won the 5A title both years.

The contest was held at Rio Rancho High School. NMAA runs it with the New Mexico Music Educators Association and awards trophies to the top three bands in each class, plus a state banner to the winner.

The week before the contest, the band performed its halftime show for families and friends at a Band Showcase at Sullivan Field, where seniors were recognized, the district newsletter said.
