County Planning Commission hears data center rules Thursday

LOGAN - The Cache County Planning Commission holds a public hearing Thursday evening on proposed rules for data centers, according to the commission's amended Nov. 5 agenda.

The request, from the Planning Commission and the County Council, would amend county code sections 17.07.030, 17.08.050, 17.09.030 and 17.10.050 and create a new Chapter 17.12 "to establish development standards for data centers," the agenda says.

The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Historic Courthouse Council Chambers, 199 N. Main St.; the hearing is set for 5:35 p.m. or shortly after.

The agenda also lists an amendment to the North Valley Landfill conditional use permit near Clarkston, a setback variance in Avon, and the commission's 2027 meeting dates.

The same evening, Utah State University hosts a public talk on data centers and their effects on Utah's land, water and energy, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Whittier Center, 290 N. 400 East, according to USU Today.

Why this matters

The new chapter would set county standards for data centers. The hearing is residents' chance to speak before the commission acts.
