Shakespeare Festival food drive collects more than 3,000 pounds for Iron County Care and Share
Donors traded six nonperishable items for a half-price ticket.
CEDAR CITY - Utah Shakespeare Festival guests donated more than 3,000 pounds of food during the Festival's 22nd annual fall food drive, according to a Festival news post published Oct. 27.
The drive ran Sept. 8 through Oct. 3. Residents of Iron, Washington, Kane, Garfield, Piute and Beaver counties and Lincoln County, Nev., could bring six nonperishable food items in exchange for a half-price ticket to a Festival production. The post gives the total only as more than 3,000 pounds and does not list the number of donors.
The food goes to Iron County Care and Share, the local food pantry at 900 North 222 West in Cedar City. Local churches of several denominations founded the pantry in 1984. According to the Festival, it works with partners and neighboring counties to help homeless and low-income people and families move toward self-sufficiency, and it accepts monetary donations.
