Parowan sends airport operator 30-day default notice, proposes joint meeting on next steps
Options raised include rebidding the contract, having the city run services, or giving a new group a chance.
PAROWAN - Parowan City has sent the business that runs services at its airport a 30-day notice of default, City Manager Dan Jessen told the City Council at its Oct. 22 meeting, according to the meeting recording.
"We sent a 30-day notice of default to the current FBO of the airport and initiated a cure period," Jessen said.
A fixed-base operator, or FBO, provides services such as fueling at a public airport. A cure period is the window to correct problems. Jessen said two of the business's three original partners chose to withdraw.
He said he and the mayor met with the remaining partner and a party interested in starting a small flight school, and that a larger FBO group planned to visit the next week with a possible proposal. Any sublease would need city approval, he said.
Jessen suggested a joint work meeting of the airport board and the council to choose among ending the agreement and rebidding it, ending it and having the city run the services, or giving a new group a chance. He suggested a 5:30 p.m. start. No date has been posted.
