Cleveland County Courthouse to glow green Nov. 4-11 for veterans
County commissioners approved an Operation Green Light for Veterans resolution on Oct. 26. Residents are asked to swap one bulb green that week.
NORMAN - The Cleveland County Courthouse will be lit green from Nov. 4 through Nov. 11 for Operation Green Light for Veterans, according to a county news release posted Oct. 28. The Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution for the effort at its Oct. 26 meeting, the board's meeting record shows, on a motion by Rod Cleveland seconded by Jacob McHughes.
The resolution names Cleveland County an Operation Greenlight for Veterans county and sets Nov. 4-11 aside to honor service members leaving the military, according to the meeting record. The national effort is led by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers. This is the fifth year the county has taken part, the release says.
The county employs a full-time Veterans Coordinator who helps the county's 21,500 veterans and their families find and apply for benefits, the release says. Residents, businesses and groups are asked to change one light to a green bulb Nov. 4-11.
This gives Cleveland County an opportunity to show our veterans that they are seen and appreciated. (Rusty Grissom, chair of the Board of County Commissioners)
