Weekend faith calendar: Jumu'ah, Shabbat, a youth crusade and sangha gatherings, Oct. 9-11

CHARLOTTESVILLE - Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Christian and Unitarian Universalist communities have worship, study and fellowship events this weekend, according to event pages posted by each host.

Friday: The Islamic Society of Central Virginia holds Jumu'ah, its weekly congregational prayer, 1:15 p.m., 708 Pine St. UVA's East Asia Center hosts Emory anthropologist Chikako Ozawa-de Silva on a secularized True Pure Land Buddhist approach to loneliness, 3:15 p.m., Monroe Hall 118. Congregation Beth Israel's Reform Kabbalat Shabbat begins at 6:15 p.m., in person and on YouTube.

Saturday: The Bridge of Hope Youth Crusade for church youth groups runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 5401 Watts Passage. Beth Israel holds Shabbat morning services at 10 a.m. Charlottesville Seventh-day Adventist Church shares a potluck fellowship meal after worship, 12:30 p.m., 2437 Jefferson Park Ave.

Sunday: The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Charlottesville worships at 11 a.m. Beth Israel's adult-education committee discusses Chaim Grade's novel "Sons and Daughters," 3 to 5 p.m. The Insight Meditation Community's Expanding Light Sangha meets 6:30 to 8 p.m.
