City Planning Commission to weigh design exceptions for 182-unit West Main building
Staff recommend approval with no conditions for LV Collective's eight-story project next to Westhaven; commissioners also discuss a T&N Printing rezoning.
CHARLOTTESVILLE - The City of Charlottesville Planning Commission on Oct. 13 will consider relaxing design rules for an eight-story, 182-unit apartment building on West Main Street, according to its agenda and a city staff report. Staff recommend approval with no conditions.
LV Collective proposes the apartments and a café on about 1.61 acres at 835-847 W. Main St., with a public plaza and a walkway to the neighboring Westhaven property owned by the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
The five exceptions would cut the ground-story height in one section from 14 feet to 6.25 feet, drop required active space there from 15 feet deep to zero, let parts of the ground floor sit 5.5 feet below grade, not 2, space street entrances up to 136 feet apart instead of 40, and allow narrower stacked bike racks.
The Board of Architectural Review approved the design with conditions in June and found 8-0 in September that the changes would not harm the West Main district, the report says. City Council decides.
Commissioners will also discuss rezoning 209 12th St. NE to CX-3 so T&N Printing can expand.
