Oct. 14, 1921: Water company promises the Twin Cities a million more gallons a day from a new Urbana well
The news followed a summer when residents were asked not to sprinkle their lawns.
CHAMPAIGN - On Oct. 14, 1921, the Twin City Review reported that the water company had promised Champaign and Urbana a million more gallons of water a day, after completing "a big well" in Urbana. The company was considering another, the paper said.
The labor weekly called it welcome news for residents who had been asked not to sprinkle their lawns the previous summer, when the company said it could not pump enough water because the wells were low.
