From the archives, 1924: First M.E. Church in Champaign advertised a Sunday school Rally Day with a goal of 1,400

CHAMPAIGN - One hundred two years ago this week, First M.E. Church in Champaign advertised a Methodist Sunday School Rally Day for Sunday, Oct. 26, according to an advertisement on page 4 of the Twin City Review of Friday, Oct. 24, 1924, a Champaign labor weekly digitized by the Library of Congress. This is a historical item.

The ad set an attendance goal of 1,400 and listed the church's record attendance as 1,408. It also printed figures for three classes, 350 for the women's Bible class, 200 for the men's Bible class and 100 for the young married people's class, without saying whether those were goals or past counts. It closed with a line aimed at the paper's union readers: "Many workingmen worship here."
