Oct. 13, 1922: Champaign County veterans organize to carry the state soldiers' bonus vote

Speakers were to tour the county's towns ahead of a parade in Champaign and Urbana.

CHAMPAIGN - In October 1922, committees of ex-service men in Champaign County were campaigning to see that the Illinois State Bonus carried at the Nov. 7 election, the Twin City Review reported.

The labor weekly said the committees planned talks before every civic organization in the Twin Cities, and that speakers would tour towns including Homer, Sidney, Philo, Tolono, Mahomet, Fisher, Rantoul and St. Joseph. It announced "a monster parade" in Champaign and Urbana for Saturday, Nov. 4, at 2:30 p.m., with speeches afterward in front of the old Gazette building.
