Ben T. Davis Beach under water-quality advisory until at least Nov. 12-13
State testing rated the Courtney Campbell Causeway beach poor for fecal bacteria, the City of Tampa says.
TAMPA - Ben T. Davis Beach, the city beach on the Courtney Campbell Causeway, is under a water-quality advisory after testing rated its water poor because of high levels of fecal bacteria, according to the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation advisories page.
The city lists the advisory as of Nov. 4; it will stay in place until at least Nov. 12-13, when the next test results are expected, the city says.
What it means for beachgoers
The Florida Department of Health checks Tampa's beach water for bacteria through the Florida Healthy Beaches Program. The city notes that when bacteria levels are high, a beach may need to close until the water returns to an acceptable level, and it recommends checking current advisories before a beach trip.
The city's other beaches are Picnic Island, Cypress Point and the Davis Islands seaplane basin; the advisories page lists no advisory for them. Ben T. Davis Beach is at 7740 W. Courtney Campbell Causeway, with metered parking at $2.50 an hour.
