Pet tip: Keep holiday food, trash and guests' medicine away from pets
With Thanksgiving three weeks off, the ASPCA suggests keeping pets on their normal diet.
TAMPA - Thanksgiving is Nov. 26, and the ASPCA's holiday safety guide recommends feeding pets the same diet as any other day. Fatty, sweet or spicy dishes and turkey or chicken bones can all hurt animals, and seasonings may hide toxic ingredients.
Keep drinks with alcohol out of reach, and take out the trash or lock the lids on cans that hold leftovers, since pets will go looking for scraps. If guests are staying over, ask them to keep their medicines in a closed cabinet instead of a bag or suitcase.
If you think your pet ate something poisonous, call your veterinarian right away.
