Two Hillsborough teachers win statewide science teaching awards
A district science resource teacher and a Chamberlain High teacher are among five Florida educators honored by the Florida Association of Science Teachers.
TAMPA - Two Hillsborough County Public Schools teachers are among Florida's top science teachers this year, according to the district.
The Florida Association of Science Teachers (F.A.S.T.) named Tiffany Brown, a science district resource teacher, its 2026 Outstanding Elementary Teacher, and Matthew Cohen of Chamberlain High School its 2026 Outstanding High School Teacher, the district said in an Oct. 26 release.
They are two of five educators statewide honored with 2026 F.A.S.T. Teacher Awards. The honorees come from Hillsborough, Duval, Collier and Broward counties.
Brown spent much of her 19-year career teaching elementary math and science, most recently at Kenly Elementary, where the district said more than 86% of her fifth-graders were proficient on the Statewide Science Assessment. She now develops curriculum and coaches elementary science teachers across the district.
Cohen brings engineering, mechatronics and systems design into his Chamberlain classroom, the district said.
Having two Hillsborough County Public School's educators recognized among the best science teachers in Florida is an incredible honor for our district.
Each winner receives $700 from F.A.S.T. and $100 from the Florida Science Education Leadership Association, for $800 in all.
