Hillsborough schools' transportation chief named national Transportation Director of the Year
Laura Hill is the first transportation leader from Florida to win the School Transportation News honor, the district says.
TAMPA - Laura Hill, general manager of transportation for Hillsborough County Public Schools, has been named National Transportation Director of the Year by the trade publication School Transportation News, the district announced. HCPS says she is the first transportation leader from Florida to receive the honor.
More than 80,000 HCPS students ride district transportation each school day, according to the district.
In the district's release, Tony Corpin, president and publisher of School Transportation News, credited Hill with streamlining operations, strengthening driver recruitment and modernizing one of the nation's largest school bus fleets. He noted that she began her career as a school bus driver.
"This is an incredible achievement, and it is especially meaningful knowing Laura is the first transportation leader from Florida to receive this honor," Superintendent Van Ayres said.
