San Jose schedules next Pop-Up Permits session Dec. 5 at Evergreen Branch Library
Weekend neighborhood sessions put plan reviewers and inspectors where residents can ask about remodels, trees and ADUs.
SAN JOSE — Pop-Up Permits brings the city’s Planning, Building and Code Enforcement plan reviewers and building inspectors into neighborhood libraries and community centers on weekends for advice on residential work, from kitchen remodels to tree removal, according to an Oct. 21, 2026, city news release. Staff have issued some simple permits on site. Property owners considering accessory dwelling units can talk with the city’s ADU Allies. City Manager Jennifer Maguire said the events put experts where people live so permitting is easier to navigate; Mayor Matt Mahan said the goal is less time on paperwork.
More than 800 residents used the program in its first year, the release said. Every participant surveyed ranked the experience excellent or good and said they were very likely to return or recommend it, according to the city. The next session is Dec. 5, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Evergreen Branch Library.
The release does not promise that any project will raise property value. Check the city calendar for the Dec. 5 hours and bring project details if you plan to ask about a permit.
