Silicon Valley Turkey Trot registration costs $60.50 until Nov. 20, then rises to $66
The Thanksgiving morning 5K and 10K in downtown San Jose welcomes walkers. Proceeds go to four local charities.
Registration for the Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot costs $60.50, including a $5.50 fee, for the 5K run/walk or the 10K run, according to the race's sign-up page on [RunSignup]({TR}), checked Nov. 2. The price rises to $66 after 11:59 p.m. Nov. 20. The race is Thursday, Nov. 26, Thanksgiving Day, in downtown San Jose.
The 5K and 10K run from 8:30 to 11 a.m. A Kids Fun Run for ages 2 to 7 starts at 10:15 a.m. and costs $33 including a $3 fee. A virtual option, for people who walk or run their distance anywhere, costs $33 to $60.50. Online registration stays open until 9 a.m. on race day.
The Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation, the charity arm of a regional business group, founded and produces the race and bills it as America's largest Thanksgiving Day race. Its website calls the course flat and fast and says it welcomes walkers and runners of all fitness levels. The foundation says all proceeds go to Healthier Kids Foundation, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, Second Harvest Santa Cruz County and Lacing Up for Literacy.
For anyone using the race as a reason to get moving, the federal Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend that adults get 150 to 300 minutes a week of moderate activity, such as brisk walking, plus muscle-strengthening work at least two days a week. The guidelines say any amount of activity has some benefit. People with health conditions should check with a doctor before starting a new exercise routine.
