Small plane lands safely at San Jose airport after engine fire fills cockpit with smoke
Two people were aboard and were checked by medics, firefighters said. The fire was out within 10 minutes.
A small plane with two people aboard landed safely at San Jose Mineta International Airport on Monday after a fire broke out in its engine compartment, the San Jose Fire Department said.
Firefighters were called to a report of an aircraft emergency at 11:37 a.m. Nov. 2, the department said in a post on X. Smoke from the fire filled the cockpit, making it hard for the two people aboard to breathe and see.
After the plane landed, medics checked both people. The fire was under control by 11:47 a.m., the department said.
The department did not say what kind of plane it was, where it was flying from or whether anyone was taken to a hospital. The airport, known as SJC, is owned and run by the city.
