Congress, District 18: Lofgren faces Republican engineer Shane Lewis
Lewis would tie federal school aid to test-score gains. Lofgren says her focus is winning back the House.
Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren faces Republican Shane Lewis on Nov. 3 for the U.S. House seat in California's 18th Congressional District, which covers about 9% of San Jose's land area, the Secretary of State's candidate list shows. Lofgren lists her ballot job title as “Congresswoman”; Lewis lists “Electrical Test Engineer.”
Lofgren has raised $1.98 million this cycle and had about $602,000 in the bank as of Oct. 14, Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show. Lewis had raised about $115,000 and had about $4,400 left.
In the June 2 primary, where the top two advance regardless of party, Lofgren won 54.9% and Lewis 29.3%.
Lofgren won 64.6% of the vote in 2024.
Lofgren's campaign site says she is “laser-focused on one mission: Reclaiming the House Majority.”
Lewis's site proposes tying federal Title I money, aid for schools with many low-income students, to at least 10% gains in student proficiency within one year.
The California Democratic Party endorses Lofgren, according to the Santa Clara County Democratic Party's list; the California Republican Party endorses Lewis.
Statewide, likely voters favor Democratic House candidates 63% to 35% in an Oct. 16-22 survey by the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC).
