Congress, District 17: Khanna, with $16.6 million on hand, faces Republican Tandon
The sitting Democrat is the San Jose area's biggest fundraiser by far.
Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna faces Republican Ritesh Tandon on Nov. 3 for the U.S. House seat in California's 17th Congressional District, which covers about 30% of San Jose's land area, the Secretary of State's candidate list shows. Khanna lists his ballot job title as “United States Congressmember”; Tandon lists “CEO/Entrepreneur/Researcher.”
Khanna has raised $15.3 million this cycle and had $16.6 million in the bank as of Oct. 14, Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show. He has more cash than he raised this cycle because his campaign started 2025 with $10.7 million left over. Tandon had raised about $57,000 and had about $5,200 left.
In the June 2 primary, where the top two advance regardless of party, Khanna won 62.3%. Tandon was second with 14.8%, ahead of Republican Jennie Ha Phan at 10.7%.
Khanna won 67.7% of the vote in 2024 against Republican Anita Chen.
The California Democratic Party endorses Khanna, according to the Santa Clara County Democratic Party's list; the California Republican Party endorses Tandon.
Statewide, likely voters favor Democratic House candidates 63% to 35% in an Oct. 16-22 survey by the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC).
