Orem opens comment on federal review of planned fire training building
OREM - Orem has posted a federal environmental review for a planned two-story regional emergency (fire) response and training building at 1402 S. Main St., and the signed assessment finds the project will not significantly affect the environment.
The city plans to use $3 million in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Project Funding for the building. The assessment says the money has already been awarded but needs authorization before it can be spent, and this review is one step toward that.
The building would have a basement and an apparatus bay, with 11,500 square feet of interior space, on a city-owned lot of about 2.1 acres at the southwest corner of 1400 South and Main Street. The assessment says Orem's fire department serves more than 120,000 residents, including Vineyard and Lindon, and that growth is adding demand on fire services.
The assessment found no mitigation measures necessary beyond routine permitting. It says the notice will stay on the city website for 15 consecutive days of public comment. Comments go to Heather Cox, a management analyst with the city.
