Nashville Globe of Oct. 9, 1908, tracked the search for a new Fisk University president
From the archives: a Black-owned Nashville weekly on who would lead Fisk
NASHVILLE - According to the front page of The Nashville Globe for Oct. 9, 1908, the city was asking who would lead Fisk University after Dr. J. G. Merrill gave up the presidency a few months earlier. The weekly says a special committee of the board would make the choice and that many of the school's supporters favored a Black president.
