The interim Radioactive and Hazardous Materials Committee meets at 9:15 a.m. in Santa Fe, with virtual public comment by Zoom.
LOS ALAMOS - Federal cleanup officials are scheduled to brief a state legislative committee on legacy cleanup and compliance at Los Alamos National Laboratory at 9:15 a.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 5, in Room 307 of the State Capitol in Santa Fe.
Stanley Pyram, acting manager of the U.S. Department of Energy's Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office, and Brad Smith, president and general manager of Newport News Nuclear BWXT-Los Alamos LLC, are listed to present to the interim Radioactive and Hazardous Materials Committee, according to its tentative agenda, revised Nov. 3.
The meeting streams on the Legislature's webcast. People may comment virtually in the committee's Zoom webinar during public comment periods the agenda sets for 2:15 p.m. Thursday and 3:15 p.m. Friday. The committee's page says those times can shift with committee business and that speakers use Zoom's "raise hand" feature.
The two-day agenda also covers produced water, PFAS, uranium, Kirtland Air Force Base cleanup, Waste Control Specialists and, as an invited item Friday, Space Nuclear Corporation microreactors.
The paper has reported on LANL cleanup and the state's dispute with DOE over the laboratory's chromium plume (see our Oct. 26, Oct. 28 and Nov. 2, 2026 stories).
